Rifle Caliber Pistol Carbine

I’ve been wanting a Pistol Caliber Carbine for years now. I’ve waffled and waffled for awhile now, and finally settled on a 10.5″ barreled “pistol” in .300Blackout.

Why? Well, go over to Shooting Illustrated and read my reasons over there.

  1. What I wonder about: Since your stated goal is using sub-sonic ammo to protect your hearing, why not simply use a AR-15 in 9mm Para? There are very few subsonic-capable hollow point loads for the 300 BLK but lots of tried-and-true ones for the 9mm.

    1. Flexibility, mainly. I like having the option of reaching out and touching someone at 300 yards if needed.

No, it probably won’t ever be needed in a home-defence situation, but I like having that option.

  2. Very intriguing. I am thinking about getting a CZ Scorpion at some time in the future for home defense. Like you, I have a Mossberg 500-series shotgun but am contemplating alternatives. The AR platform may work well, although I do like the thought of a SMG for home defense. Will look at this a bit more though, looks like a worthwhile option to consider.
