I took the 1911 out to this week’s Shoot And Scoot and put another 100 rounds of Federal Champion Aluminum .45 ammo through it, and unfortunately, the gun suffered a catastrophic, test-ending parts failure that has completely shattered my faith in the 1911 platform.
The fiber optic in the front sight fell out.
OH THE HUMANITY!!!!!!!! HOW CAN I EVER SHOOT THIS GUN EVER AGAIN!!!?
Other than that soul-crushing event, nothing happened with the gun. It loaded and fed all 100 rounds with no issues.
After that was over, I put 200 or so rounds thru my CZ P07 to get myself re-acquainted with that gun. The last time I shot it was at TacCon, and I want to start carrying again on a regular basis, so some range time was definitely in order.
And it went well. Here’s Stage 2 from the Shoot N Scoot, a simple all-steel stage using 18 rounds.
And I shot it 9.64 seconds, with a reload.
I’ll take it.
Bottom line on the test to-date.
Colt Competition 2000 Round Challenge
100 Rounds Federal Aluminium 230gr FMJ .45ACP
1250 Rounds Fired: No issues, except life as we know it came to an end with the fiber optic fell out.
